Jessica and Steve’s Big Sur Wedding at The Jewel In The Forest was everything but ordinary. They planned the whole wedding themselves, and put their personality into every detail.
The love from friends and family that surrounds these two is something very special. The bride’s mom made the bouquets, boutonnieres, and floral arrangements. The couple’s good friends made the cake and all the baked goods. The cake topper was also made by a friend, Gaby Roth, a whimsical piece made to look like the bride and groom. All handmade with love!
From the bride: “The best part about the wedding was that we made people from the city and the prairie midwest get lost in the epic forest that is Big Sur and surrender their internet, reception, and outside world for the weekend. We had one big camping weekend with the people that have watched our love evolve. We took everyone on a long hike through the forest to experience our favorite feeling, being in solitude together. On all of our roadtrips to Big Sur we would always listen to Iron and Wine, so naturally I walked down the aisle to “Flightless Bird, American Mouth”. Since we are both scientists, our vows were quoted from the great Carl Sagan. Our officiant was my brother, who dropped in some great “chemistry” jokes.”
The most unique detail of the day was their “book”. The bride wrote their love story disguised as a children’s bedtime story and had it illustrated by their talented friend, Nicole Ellsworth. She read it to the guests at the reception, and it was just about the most adorable thing ever.
